How to Make A Homeschool High School Transcript & Middle School (Free Editable Form)

After homeschooling 20+ years, I’m sharing how to make a homeschool transcript. You’ll love the other forms I have on my homeschool planner and how to homeschool high school and homeschool middle school page.

Besides, it’s been a while since I’ve updated my original transcript.

In addition, this unique form I’ve updated today can be used beginning in middle school.

How to Make A Homeschool High School Transcript & Middle School (Free Editable Form)

Also, my homeschool high school transcript was created with much flexibility.

You can use this editable transcript for many different reasons.

  • If you want to track some courses starting in middle school.
  • Or you have a special needs child and want to take a bit longer time or need more flexibility with subjects.
  • Too, if your teen wants to graduate earlier, this form gives you much flexibility.
  • And if you want to follow a 4-year traditional high school course this form is perfect and finally
  • You may lean toward the unschool-ish side and want to track subjects instead of years or grades this form fits that need too.

As you can see it’s a unique form.

Homeschool High School Transcript

So, when I got his question from Carol, I was excited.

Hi, had a quick question do you know of any place we as homeschool parent can purchase, blank transcripts with a guide to teach you how to  prepare them? Getting overwhelmed with our son now in high
school. Thanks again, your a God sen
d.

Homeschool High School Transcripts @ Tinas Dynamic Homeschool Plus

Sharing a few general tips to help you through the high school years and some specific tips for the transcript,

General High School Transcript Tips

  1. Decide a grading scale and stick with it when you do decide. Here at my Step 5a. Choose Unique Forms JUST for You, look at option 10 on that page where I give you a couple of options for grading scales.
  2. About credits. Know that a very basic rule of thumb and easier to remember without all the educationalese is that one high school textbook or course equals to about 1 credit. Look here at Homeschool High School–How to Log Hours for High School for more tips. And if you’re tracking by hours another rule of thumb is that 1 credit equals about 120 hours.
  3. And finally, you don’t produce a transcript immediately upon entering high school or even in 10th grade. I changed from how I thought I wanted it set up in 9th grade until his senior year. You have time to mull over what is needed for your child’s particular direction if he is in any grade other than a senior this year.
  4. A high school transcript is a 1-page document. When and if a college asks for more, then second page which is a comprehensive course description. Your 1-page document should be clean, simple, and well articulated, not a diary of your whole homeschool journey.
  5. Course Descriptions. You do not put course descriptions on the transcript. You put descriptions on a second page so they’re noted and you have them if asked by a college. Just put the name of the course.
  6. One more thing I need to mention is plan for the 3 Rs in high school like you have all the other grades. Depending on what your child is doing will determine which one you may spend more time in. Each year cover 1 English, 1 Science, 1 Math and 1 History.
How to Make A Homeschool High School Transcript & Middle School (Free Editable Form)

As I mentioned earlier, key to filling it out is charting your courses or subjects in middle and/or high school and then filling out the transcript, not the other way around.

What I’m saying is 1) Plan the courses 2) Change the courses as needed, 3) Redo courses 4) and LASTLY prepare the transcript.
You track most all work and courses by planning pages. My form is so flexible that is you want to use it for planning and tracking you can too.

Basics of High School Transcripts

Transcripts, like birth certificates are official documents and that means they need to look somewhat uniformed although we have unique journeys.

Use the forms below for planning while you look over the high school transcript.

High School Planning CP @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus
Planning 1-Required Courses for Graduation CP @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

I have had them for years before I produced my transcript because that is the part of the phase that takes longer.

Charting a course for 4 years or longer is not easy, but then again it too doesn’t have to be done all at once either.

You can find those forms on Step 5a. Choose Unique Forms JUST for You.

Transcript Tina's Dynamic Homeschol Plus

My first transcript is above, and I left it here so you can see how things change.

And my newest high school transcript template has these features in each section. Look below as I explain each section.

How to Fill out the TOP SECTION of the High School Transcript Personal Basic Information

  • full student name
  • student address
  • date of birth and sex
  • phone number
  • email
  • parent/guardian name
  • school name
  • school address
  • phone number
  • email
  • date of graduation
  • signature of principal or administrator

How to Fill Out the Middle Part – Courses/Subjects of the High School Transcript

This section is where this template is different than most and that is you can use it just for high school or for middle, unschooling or modify for a child with special needs.

For example, look at sample 1 below.

  • This first sample is using my editable form for a traditional 4-year high school experience.
  • Note you can just put the grade level or
  • You can add a school year to it 202? – 202? after each grade if you want more specificity.
  • Under each grade level you would add the courses, the grade and the credit earned.
  • Too, there are 6 areas so you can separate the electives or specify other individual courses.
How to Make A Homeschool High School Transcript & Middle School (Free Editable Form)

Furthermore, look at this sample 2.

  • Instead of tracking by grades, list by subjects or courses which can be good if you begin in middle school or have a special needs child. Use the main box for Subjects or Courses and not grade level.
  • Under each subject there are 6 lines to list courses. That is an additional 2 lines for courses instead of the traditional 4.
  • Also, another way to track is by combining courses AND the school year. This works best for a child that has a leaning toward one area or discipline over another. For example, if your child is science minded, he may take more courses in Math and Science. You can reflect that on this form.
  • Use ** asterisks to denote something unique about a course and then add to the key at the bottom of the transcript.
How to Make A Homeschool High School Transcript & Middle School (Free Editable Form)

Lastly look at the bottom section of the transcript where you can note important details.

You have flexibility to add any notes or circumstances unique to your situation.

How to Fill Out Last Part – Grades/Making it Official/Noting Honors, Dual Enrollment, Etc.

How to Make A Homeschool High School Transcript & Middle School (Free Editable Form)

Below I have explained each section and have even given you some wording for each section if you need it.

  1. Grading Scale. Add the grading scale you’ve chosen to use through your journey.
  2. Academic Summary. If you need to add test scores add them here. Too, if you need to distinguish between weighted and non-weighted grades or GPA. And to keep it simple, weighted means there was an overall grade for subjects. For example, honor and AP courses are normally weighted. Unweighted means course difficulty was considered. Also, you will notice that Total Credits Earned are put here and NOT tracked by courses or grade. If you want to track credits, be sure to use the planning pages I have.
  3. Notes: There is plenty of room to explain either dual enrollment, honors courses or modifications because of special needs. For example for special needs add : Modifications for special needs was given for the American History Remedial Course. For Dual Enrollment: Dual Enrollment courses were taken by Lone Star Community College. For Honors Courses. Please note this area is subjective meaning no two schools even agree. So explain with detail how you determined this course as hnors. For example, Honor courses were determined by a faster pace, more in depth study, and special projects.
  4. Sign, date it, and make official. You’ve got this.

You’ll love this free editable movie lesson plan template for your printable Homeschool Planner.

Too, movies have a way of teaching a subject which may be hard to teach.

And creating lesson plans from a movie gives your learner another way of taking in information.

Not all movies need to be reduced to lesson plans.

Creative Free Editable Movie Lesson Plan Template for Homeschooling

However, I’ve found using movies as an introduction to a unit study or to teach a sensitive subject helped learning stick.

Also, look below at how to use the lesson planning template.

How to Use the Editable Movie Lesson Plan Template

First, the printable is editable.

Editable means there are preset forms which you can type in.

In addition, you may be teaching more than one grade level, so check as many grade levels as you’re teaching.

At the beginning of the document is a place for your lesson title and name of the movie.

Additionally, it’s important to understand what is the big picture or major points you want your child to learn from the movie.

So, the space at the top is so that you can explain what is the big picture or major points.

Creative Free Editable Movie Lesson Plan Template for Homeschooling

Next, because learning is not separated, check all the subjects which apply for the movie or the lesson plan.

Finally, at the bottom is an area for description of tasks or lesson plans, resources and materials and other notes.

2023 New Year Homeschool Goals Printable (Get it Together Girl)

December 29, 2022 | 2 Comments
This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see my full disclosure policy.

The 2023 new year homeschool goals printable is ready. You’ll love the other forms I have for my free homeschool planner.

This new year goal printable is one I love especially because it reminds me to keep goal setting simple.

And to not fill in so many goals that I can’t reach them.

One of the best parts I like about the form is to remind myself to have Less of This.

2023 New Year Homeschool Goals Printable (Get it Together Girl)

It’s important to remind myself that some things I need to let go.

I don’t want to have pie in the sky goals, but to be reminded to homeschool and live simply.

Besides, the new physical year is a half-way point if you’re following an academic year.

And a half-way point is a good reminder.

Homeschool Goals

Also, goal setting means doing LESS OF THIS.

I’ve learned doing more means that I have to let go of something.

Different things can weigh me down. I mentioned being too critical of myself is one thing that holds me back.

Letting go each year or at least reminding myself to let go each year, I can start with a fresh slate.

Maybe this next year you need to do more of something which is productive.

Just remember that being productive means doing less of something. It means making room for it.

What are you going to be doing LESS OF this next year?

Grab the form below. It’s easy to fill out because it requires few words! Keep goal setting simple.

Day 27 10 Homeschool Tips to Break Out of a Homeschool Rut And New Homeschooler Free Bootcamp

December 6, 2022 | 1 Comment
This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see my full disclosure policy.

Today, Day 27 we have 10 homeschool tips to break out of a homeschool rut. You’ll love the other tips on my 31 Day Free Boot Camp for New Homeschoolers.

When learning about the Oregon Trail a few years back, we looked at pictures of wagon wheel ruts stretching across two thousand miles of untamed wilderness.

Ruts served as a guide to pave the way to the West. No doubt, hundreds of pioneers took comfort as they reached their destinations.

Day 27 10 Homeschool Tips to Break Out of a Homeschool Rut And New Homeschooler Free Bootcamp

Ruts certainly paved the road for adventuresome pioneers and it is similar with our homeschool journey.

Homeschoolers that have gone before you have plowed ruts and left visible markers like free online curriculum and testimonies when their children graduated.

However, a rut can make each day uninteresting and lifeless. The longer you homeschool, the easier it is to become humdrum about it.

On Day 28, I will go over some questions on how to tell when burnout looms, but today I am sharing more about how to spice up your day. You know, get those creative juices of yours to flow.

However, these tips can help too when you are already burned out and the little yellow school bus back to public school is looking quite nice.

You’ll love the homeschool tips I share below.

Before I share some tips to bring the spark back into your day, I want you to trust the method in how to get those ideas to spout because it is not easy at times to get creative juices flowing.

Believe me when I say that my curriculum planner or unit studies today do not look anything like they did a few years ago. Refinement is a process in education too.

I have to share this one thing that I learned when reading over the weekend about the brain and refinement of information.

I know, crazy to read about that, but only educators read about those kinds of subjects. Anyway, it was so fascinating to read how synapses can become more like a super highway of information through constant use.

The more you create and build your ideas about teaching, the easier it is to take one idea, tweak it and make it into another.

Information overflows and grows as these synapses working with dendrites bring information in.

10 Homeschool Tips to Spice Up Your Routine

I stand in amazement that we are so FULL of the capability of bringing our homeschooling ideas from a sagging bridge to an indomitable interstate.

Day 27 10 Homeschool Tips to Break Out of a Homeschool Rut And New Homeschooler Free Bootcamp. I have 10 homeschool tips to break out of a homeschool rut. You’ll love the other tips on my 31 Day Free Boot Camp for New Homeschoolers. However, a rut can make each day uninteresting and lifeless. The longer you homeschool, the easier it is to become humdrum about it. However, these tips can help too when you are already burned out. #newtohomeschool

Look at these ideas that I hope gets your creative juices flowing:

1.) Instead of doing math worksheets for the day, take the day to read living math books. This instills in your children the fact that math is about using it for everyday living. Click on the picture above to see the different categories for books and read some next time your child chimes that math is boring.

2.) Read out loud together as a family. No, and I don’t just mean in elementary school. I read to my sons all the way through to high school. Their memories of sitting in my lap and now laying on the couch or sitting beside me as I read to them not only endears them to me but helps them to realize the beauty and value of reading. It’s not about them to learning to read, but it is about treasuring family relationships and restoring our spirit. It’s about the pleasure of reading without having to do an analysis of it.

3.) Take a family walk. Though my husband and I use to do this by ourselves, the kids have been joining us. They may ride their bikes while I exercise by walking, but the fact that we move for the day helps us to lift our heads out of the rut.

4.) Cut back some text books and add in a homemade lesson plan. I’ve said it before but anything homemade tastes better than box anytime. You really want to do this from the very beginning of starting homeschool so that you can become skilled at it as the years go by. For example, if your science lesson for the day said to read about the planets for the day, take time to act out the process. Your young kids will enjoy twirling around the room as they learn about terms like revolve and rotate. If you are doing some Shakespeare, then assign an older child to recite some of it. Most of us have that one kid that likes to dress up and make others laugh. He is also the same kid that will benefit from a skit like that because it is fun and brings laughter to learning.

5.) Instead of a co-op, meet with JUST 1 other family each week to do a project. I did this one year when I was planning too much and I felt like we needed a break. One week we met at my house as her kids looked forward to coming to my house. The next week we met at her house so that we could get out of our house. Both of us as moms were super busy so we kept it super easy when we met. However, just the fact that another educator was helping to plan gave us a huge impetus for our year. We cooked food from another country for one history assignment and made an ice cream Viking ship at another assignment.

6.) If your kids don’t like to write, have them start a private blog. I know a lot of homeschool kids that blog and they make it private. They may only share with grandma or a few other close homeschooling kids. Kids that may not like writing suddenly find a purpose for sharing their thoughts.

7.) Volunteer service. I know a lot of us homeschool because we are not only worried about the reading grade but want to instill Godly character. My sons have taken turns in the past reading the Bible to some elderly ones in a nursing home. The elderly love hearing the Word and especially when it comes from such a sweet face. Food banks and some wildlife preservation places clamor for teens to help out too. What satisfaction we get from our homeschool day when we focus on others.

8.) Take your work to the park. We have done this many times. Either it has been the first day of school or when we get up in the morning, I can see that this day calls for a change in the routine. Packing our lunch or better yet, according to the kids, driving thru and picking up a home made pizza, we head to the park.

Ewwwwwwwww, homeschooling on the wild side!! It feels goooood!

9.) Start off your day with a different subject than normal. Though it sounds like a little thing, the smallest change in your routine can ignite the passion for learning and take you out of the humdrum. For example, I start off reading aloud to everybody, then have everybody start their math or writing.

10.) Stop. If you are in a rut and you can feel burnout coming, just stop and rest. Relaxation and rejuvenation combat the homeschool ruts. There is no need to be a super mom. In the end the praise we want is from our God, our husbands and our children. Nobody else matters. So take your time and stop to rest and take care of yourself. You ARE worth it!

Take these ideas when the homeschool rut hits and TRUST that you can create some awesomeness in your day if you are willing to continue to work on your teacher skills.

In other words, you’ll want to print a couple of each one and place them at different places in your planner.

Additionally, I prepare several different calendars for each academic and physical year.

Again, the academic calendars are July to June and of course the physical year calendars are January to December.

The point is all my calendars always have 12 months.

Next, look at the other two types of calendars I create each year.

Here are some features and sections it has.

  • 12 months on one page so if you school year round, you can still track;
  • is a calendar where highlight weeks you plan to homeschool and mark out weeks you take off;
  • is used to track each day and total weeks by writing down; and it has a comprehensive key box at the bottom of the form for you to note things like first day of school, holidays, quarters, and goals for days and weeks to homeschool.
