I have a Geronimo Stilton book list because we love the series. Be sure to grab more Geronimo Stilton Books ideas and crafts on my page.

First, the books originated in Italy and were written by Elisabetta Dami and use the name Geronimo Stilton as the author. Clever pen name, right?

Geronimo Stilton is written from the point of view of a young nervous mouse who keeps finding himself drawn into adventures (and sometimes in a pickle) in all sorts of different places around the world.

For example, he travels to the Outback, Egypt, New York, into the jungle, and sailing with pirates to name just a few of his adventures.

They are great books for visual learners, young readers transitioning to chapter books, struggling readers, reluctant readers, and pretty much any other type of reader.

Additionally, they are recommended for ages 7-10 but depending on your child’s age I feel like that span can go a little wider in either direction.

Besides, you can see from the list below that Geronimo has quite a variety of adventures.

Next, look at the top 5 reasons to love the Geronimo Stilton book list.

Top 5 Reasons to Love Geronimo Stilton

  1. They are super fun to read. And they are written in a comic book or graphic novel style with bright and fun illustrations. This helps kids get a better picture of the locations and keeps their interest. The different sizes and styles of fonts help put emphasis on words, phrases, and themes throughout the book. Often these highlighted words make for a great introduction or review of spelling/vocabulary words.
  2. Teaches great life lessons- Geronimo’s books tend to have some kind of lesson woven in like being open to adventure, recycling, being brave, friendship, family, and other character concepts that are laid out simply for kids.
  3. Loaded with great facts and information- While telling the crazy stories they naturally weave in facts about people, places, and things so your child can’t help but learn while they enjoy the tale. Each of these elements is casually introduced in the story so your child is learning as they enjoy a story without it being a textbook at all. There is special emphasis on geography and history and make for a great history series for younger children.
  4. Great for boys and girls- While they do have a spin-off series about his sister Thea Stilton, Geronimo is written to appeal to both boys and girls, no matter what theme the adventure. If you have multiple kids in the house you are going to get a lot of bang for your buck on these books.
  5. They cover a variety of topics and locations- Whatever you are learning about or piques your child’s interest there is a great chance that there is a Geronimo Stilton out there for them. Looking for a book for them to read on the flight to a family vacation in Hawaii? Try book #72-The Hawaiian Heist, need something to supplement your Egypt study? Go with #2 The Curse of The Cheese Pyramid.

The Phantom of the Subway (Geronimo Stilton, No. 13)

But we were all in for the fright of our wee mouse lives... because the ghost turned out to be a CAT!

The Temple of the Ruby of Fire (Geronimo Stilton, No. 14)

It was my most thrilling adventure yet! My old friend Professor von Volt had discovered the location of the famous Ruby of Fire. And before I could let out a squeak of protest, my sister Thea had dragged me into race to be the first to find the legendary gem. The jewel was protected by thousands of ancient booby-traps -- a 'fraidy mouse's worst nightmare? Would I make it through with my fur?

The Mona Mousa Code (Geronimo Stilton, No. 15)

Do you like art? I do! So when Thea heard that there was a secret map hidden beneath Mouse Island's most famous painting, the Monamouse, I knew we had to get the scoop! Together we began to investigate, and soon we discovered secret clues that led us to the most fabumouse secret. And it all lay beneath the streets of New Mouse City!

A Cheese-Colored Camper[GERONIMO STILTON #16 CHEESE-CO][Paperback]

My grandfather William Shortpaws -- also known as Cheap Mouse Willy -- was back at The Rodent's Gazette, and he was determined to torture me. He wanted to publish a guide book to Ratzikistan, the Siberia of Mouse Island. And he ordered *me* to go there to write it! But as you know, dear reader,

Watch Your Whiskers, Stilton! (Geronimo Stilton, No. 17)

Cheesecake! A mysterious one-eyed rat was trying to steal The Rodent's Gazette from under my snout! I had to stop him -- but how? My business manager, Shif T. Paws, came up with a plan. He arranged for me to appear on a TV quiz show. If I won, the Gazette was safe. But if I lost -- SQUEAK! -- I had to give up my tail!

Shipwreck on the Pirate Islands (Geronimo Stilton, No. 18)

My sister had come up with a new way to torment me. She'd combined my two least favorite things - travel and ghosts! Thea had heard rumors of a haunted pirate treasure buried on a desert island. And before I could say "avast ye scurvy rats," she'd dragged me into her treasure hunt!

My Name Is Stilton, Geronimo Stilton (Geronimo Stilton, No. 19)

Have you met my very young assistant editor, Pinky Pick? She is only thirteen years old, but she is one of the cleverest mice I've ever known. If you've ever wondered how Pinky came to work for me at The Rodent's Gazette, this is the book for you! It's a looooong story... and one that's full of adventure, laughs, and of course, like all of my books, lots of embarrassing moments for yours truly!

Surf's Up, Geronimo! (Geronimo Stilton, No. 20)

Ah, there's nothing like a relaxing vacation on the beach! I would spread out by the crystal-clear water with a good book. What more could a mouse want? At least, that was the plan. But somehow, my vacations never seem to go according to plan. Instead of a beautiful seaside resort, I found myself in a fleabag hotel that was falling down around my ears! Oh, would I ever be able to relax and enjoy my vacation

If your child is reading Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time, you’ll love this Mayan mask. Be sure to grab more Geronimo Stilton Books ideas and crafts on my page.

If you don’t know about him already, Geronimo Stilton is a globetrotting mouse who finds himself in all kinds of adventures.

Oftentimes these adventures take him time traveling.

In this second book in this series, he finds himself first in Ancient Rome, in the middle of the Mayan Empire, and finally in the Age of The Sun King visiting Louis XIV.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Geronimo’s books love to share maps, landmarks, dress, customs, and legends of the period he visits.

These books make wonderful “textbooks” disguised as chapter books.

Assign the section for independent reading or read aloud and then add in a few fun activities to round it out.

I wanted to dive a little deeper into the second part of the book, the Mayan Empire, and create a craft that highlights some of their traditions.

Mayan masks were a big part of the ancient culture and were a perfect activity to highlight the culture, traditions, and art.

They were made from a variety of materials like gold, shells, stones, gems, and volcanic rock.

Masks were used for a variety of reasons including to adorn the faces of the dead, to be worn at important events, to be worn during battle, as well as hung up in houses.

5 Facts About Mayan Culture

First, look at some of these facts about the Mayan civilization.

  • The Mayans were a group of people who lived in the Yucatan Peninsula in what is today Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
  • Many Mayans still live there today, they are still  living in the same areas where the Mayan civilization used to be. They follow the ancient Mayan traditions and beliefs, as well as speak the Mayan language.
  • New Archaeological ancient sites are still being discovered, Ek Balam was just found in the 1980’s.
  • The Mayans main crops were corn, beans, avocados, papayas, and cocoa, etc.
  • They made 7 big contributions to the modern world-The Mayan Calendar, astronomy, hydraulic buildings, filtration systems, rubber, chocolate, and medicine.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Finally, look how to make this fun Mayan mask.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time – Mayan Mask

We wanted our mask to resemble a jaguar.

The Mayan warriors believed that wearing a jaguar helmet mask gave them the ability to face their enemies with courage and strength.

I like to use 12×12 cardstock, it makes a great size for a Mayan mask. You can find this in the scrapbook section at your local craft store.

You will need:

  • 12×12 Cardstock
  • Jumbo craft stick
  • Scissors
  • Markers

First, fold the cardstock in half and press in a good crease.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Keeping cardstock folded, draw a half circle/oval to create a basic face shape.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Cut out the half circle.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

On the center of one side draw an oval eye.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

We want to keep the mask as symmetrical as possible so to do that you need to fold the two sides in towards the crease.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Close along the fold again and cut out the eye outline.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Depending on where your eye was in the fold here is how your eyes should look.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Open all the folds and then refold only at the center crease, cut a half oval shape for the mouth.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Use scraps leftover from the cardstock and cut out ears as well as a nose shape.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

We cut our nose shape out 4 times and layered them together with glue like this to create a little depth to the mask.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Glue the nose in place.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

After looking up some Mayan masks online for inspiration let your child use markers to design their own mask.

Geronimo Stilton Back in Time Second Journey Through Time and Fun Mayan Mask

Flip the mask over and glue the ears and teeth onto the back.

Cut teeth out of white cardstock and attach them to the back of the mouth opening.

Now, glue the popsicle stick into place as well to hold the mask up. Alternatively, you can glue string to the top to wear it.

Let the glue dry completely.

In the first section, it is a trip right into the middle of the Prehistoric Period.

The book takes Geronimo through the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods to learn more about the dinosaurs that once roamed the earth.

With great little factoids about different species of dinosaurs, bright illustrations, and an engaging story and a theory on how they disappeared, it is a great read for your child.

Finally, you will need only two things to make a no sew dinosaur mat yourself-felt and a hot glue gun.

It makes a great roll-and-go activity while waiting at restaurants or doctors’ offices as well as at home on the kitchen table.

Geronimo Stilton The Journey Through Time No Sew Dino Mat

You are only limited by your own creativity here, whatever you can dream of you can turn into a felt masterpiece.

However, I am going to give you a few tips for recreating a few things.

You will need:

  • Various colors of felt
  • Hot glue gun/sticks
  • Scissors

Use a by-the-yard piece of green felt for the base if you want a larger mat.

However, if you want to stick with the basic felt size you can attach 2 pieces side by side to make it larger.

And to secure them together and hide the seam, cut a wavy strip of blue to create water and glue the two pieces to the underside.

Geronimo Stilton The Journey Through Time Fun Easy No Sew Dinosaur Mat

Next, create grass and clumps of bushes by cutting green into ½” strips and cutting vertically not quite to the edge to make fringe. You can roll them up and hot glue the bottom to your base for bushes.

Geronimo Stilton The Journey Through Time Fun Easy No Sew Dinosaur Mat

Or leave it long, and glue along the bottom edge, depending on what you want to replicate.

Geronimo Stilton The Journey Through Time Fun Easy No Sew Dinosaur Mat

Cut white, tan, and gray felt into irregular circles for rock shapes and secure to the mat with hot glue.

Geronimo Stilton The Journey Through Time Fun Easy No Sew Dinosaur Mat

Finally, to create the centerpiece, the volcano, draw and cut out a cone shape with a flat top on beige fabric.

Geronimo Stilton The Journey Through Time Fun Easy No Sew Dinosaur Mat

Cut red, orange, and yellow stripes with an uneven edge for flames, and hot glue to the top of the volcano.

Geronimo Stilton The Journey Through Time Fun Easy No Sew Dinosaur Mat

Roll it, and secure down the edges with glue. Stuff with a little cotton filling or even just felt scraps.

Bend a small piece of the edge and secure it to the mat with glue, continue to fold and glue all the way around. Fan out the exploding lava.

Geronimo Stilton The Journey Through Time Fun Easy No Sew Dinosaur Mat

You can add other pieces like smaller ponds, quicksand, or whatever other features you would like on your mat.

Add small dinosaurs for play, counting, and more.

Too, I’m excited because April is National Poetry Month.

What better reason to start enjoying afternoon poetry teatime with the family.

How to Add Fun Teatime To Your Homeschool Poetry Study

Maybe you haven’t done poetry study yet, then this might be the perfect way to incorporate it.

If you don’t know what it is, then read on.

What Is Poetry Teatime

Poetry Teatime is a lovely way to slow down, and enjoy each other and some tea, maybe a nibble or two, and absorb the beauty of the world of poetry.

Julie Bogart from Brave writer is credited with bringing this fun and special time to the homeschool world.

Everyone does it a little differently.

Some do it every week or every month, and some just occasionally.

Other families choose various themes, dressing up a bit is fun but not required.

You can enjoy poetry teatime on the couch, at the table, or even outside as a picnic.

How to Add Fun Teatime To Your Homeschool Poetry Study

It truly is as simple as 1,2,3,

  1. Step 1 Gather Everyone Together
  2. Bring some kind of beverage and snack.
  3. Read Poetry
  4. Oh, and step 4 Enjoy.

Poetry Teatime Themes

Themes can give your poetry study a fun direction to go in and you can create a theme based on almost anything you are learning.

Here are some of my favorites.

  • Nature- Poems about grass, the sky, trees, insects, etc.
  • Female Poets-Angelou, Browning, Plath, Dickinson.
  • Seasons-Celebrate the beginning of a new season.
  • The Hobbit- Bring a little bit of the shire home. Here is a list of poems in The Hobbit.
  • Silly Holidays- Think National Spaghetti Day or Batman Day.
  • Medieval -Sir Gawain and The Green Knight? Beowulf?
  • International Poetry Teatime- China, Russia, France, All American.

Shakespeare-Shall I Compare Thee To a Summer’s Day? Sonnet 18

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: The Poetry of Mister Rogers

For the first time ever, 75 beloved songs from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and The Children's Corner are collected in this charmingly illustrated treasury, sure to be cherished by generations of children as well as the millions of adults who grew up with Mister Rogers.

A Child's Garden of Verses

Here is a delightful look at childhood, written by master poet and storyteller Robert Louis Stevenson. In this collection of sixty-six poems, Stevenson recalls the joys of his childhood, from sailing boats down a river, to waiting for the lamplighter, to sailing off to foreign lands in his imagination. Tasha Tudor's watercolor paintings evoke a simpler time in the past, and celebrate two of the things she loves most -- children and nature. Her talents are the perfect match for these inspiring poems, making this a handsome gift edition that will be cherished by families for generations.

A Child's Book of Poems

William Blake, Kate Greenaway, Emily Dickinson: the writers in this charming anthology of 200 poems—first published in 1969—are among literature’s most beloved. And Gyo Fujikawa’s appealing illustrations depict children of all races sweetly interacting, as well as an engagingly rendered menagerie of animals and the natural world in all its wonderment.

Read-Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young

irst published in 1986 and just as fresh and relevant today, this widely acclaimed, child-friendly poetry anthology is now being reissued with a striking new jacket. In his introduction to this book Jim Trelease, bestselling author of The Read-Aloud Handbook, writes, “No one better recognizes the essence of the child-poetry connection than poet and anthologist Jack Prelutsky. . . . Here are more than 200 little poems to feed little people with little attention spans to help both grow. Marc Brown’s inviting illustrations add a visual dimension to the poems, which further engage young imaginations.” The poems are by 119 of the best-known poets of the 20th century.

A Child's Introduction to Poetry

Poetry is fun—especially when we can read it, hear it, and discover its many delights. A Child's Introduction to Poetry joyously introduces kids (and parents) to the greatest poets in history—from Homer and Shakespeare to Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou—and provides excellent examples of their work and commentary on what makes it so special and everlasting. The book covers every style of poem, from epics and odes, to nonsense verse and haikus, and is filled with examples of each one.

A Child's Anthology of Poetry

A timeless collection celebrating the joys of poetry for children of all ages—an indispensable introduction to literature and life that brings together essential classic children's poems with the best of modern and contemporary international poetry.

The simple pleasures of reading and listening to poetry can make unforgettable memories in childhood and help children develop an interest in language and storytelling. From Robert Frost to Maya Angelou, Shel Silverstein to Emily Dickinson, this collection emphasizes the fun and diversity of poetry, providing young readers with a well-rounded, inclusive selection of poets.

The Complete Tales and Poems of Winnie-the-Pooh

In 1926, the world was introduced to a portly little bear named Winnie-the-Pooh. Along with his young friend, Christopher Robin, Pooh delighted readers from the very beginning. His often befuddled perceptions and adorable insights won the hearts of everyone around him, including his close group of friends. From the energetic Tigger to the dismal Eeyore, A. A. Milne created a charming bunch, both entertaining and inspirational. These simple creatures often reflected a small piece of all of us: humble, silly, wise, cautious, creative, and full of life.

Hands-On Activities Poetry

  • While you can use anything you have on hand already it would be fun to visit thrift stores and hunt for pretty cups and teapots together-also a great lesson in thriftiness.
  • This is a great opportunity to let your child take the lead. Let your child help or completely plan the menu, the theme, or other activities.
  • Some kids just can’t sit still, and that’s okay. During poetry read-aloud, let your kids be busy with play dough, drawing, or simple quiet handiwork like needle felting or a simple sewing project.
  • Create a template for younger children to learn how to properly set a table. Simply trace the plate, cup, and utensils on a piece of construction paper and laminate it for practice.
  • Have your child write their own poem to share and try different styles of poetry each time or for each person.
  • Make tea sandwiches. Put together your child’s favorite be it a peanut butter and jelly or cucumber sandwich. Cut them into tiny bite-size pieces for a fun treat.
  • Think of special food like tea with crumpets, scones, tiny cookies, fruit, and dainty petit fours for a special treat.
  • Make teatime a lesson in table manners, practice being fancy pinkies up.
