The BEST Homeschool Lesson Planning Pages to Choose THIS Year

August 17, 2016 | Leave a Comment
This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see my full disclosure policy.

How to choose the best homeschool lesson planning pages is not always easy. Also, look at my page Homeschool Planner and 7 Step Curriculum Planner for more homeschool planning pages.

Through the years the needs of my children and myself have changed; I’ve created homeschool pages to meet those needs.

Your needs change each year too and so should your planner.

That was was/is my absolute driving inspiration as I build my 7 Step Free Homeschool Planner. And it’s also why I share it with you.

Today, I want to share some tips of how to choose the best homeschool lesson planning pages each year so that you make a great fit.

After all, the right tool can make the difference between a useful or completely useless tool.

Your needs change each year too and so should your homeschool planner, which was/is my absolute and driving inspiration as I build my 7 Step Free Homeschool Planner. And it's also why I share it with you. Click here!

And of course, the best way I learned the difference between lesson pages is to compare them.

I rounded up my forms and put them here for you to compare.

Look at these homeschool pages I have created and used at one point one or another and my explanation a my homeschool journey has unfolded.

I am hoping it will help you to decide which lesson planning page you need this.

One// Timeless, classic and working hard!

You can find my timeless original lesson planning here.

Traditional Lesson Planning @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

This is the best working horse of my homeschool lesson planning pages and the one I used for many years while the kids were young.

It is what I call my original lesson planning page because it was a breakthrough from the traditional ones I thought I was forced to buy.

Look at how I created it:

  • to be a daily (NOT A WEEKLY) workhorse because I needed room to write.
  • to use with 3 or more kids. Remember that unless you have 4 high school kids, not all of your kids do the same amount of workload. So add a line at the bottom and divide the bottom area for space for your younger kids who do not have as much of an academic load to jot down.
  • because it is not a weekly glance, the planner is thinner when you utilize front/back printing.
  • to write down content subjects at the bottom because content subjects don’t have to be done every day and you want to teach your kids together.
  • also it is NOT dated. You fill in as you school. No erasing or no feeling that you get behind with a dated planner.

Two// Flexible, beautiful AND colorful.

You can find this Glammed Up Option here.

180 Lesson Plan Page @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

Then when I realized I would be using this for many years, I decided to do a Glammed Up option because I love pretty planners.

Besides when I look at something year after year, it has to be bright, cheery AND a workhorse.

Homeschool Unit Study Lesson Planning @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

You can find this lesson planning page as part of my Ultimate Unit Study Planner.

Three// Whoa girlfriend! Relax. You got this!

Then as I ventured out and started creating my own lesson plans and relaxed, I realized I had other needs then. So I created this next lesson planning page.

Look at how I created it.

  • Weekly spread with room for fewer notes since I wanted to relax a bit.
  • But, I added the subject boxes to the right so that I could keep myself accountable and to see that I was doing more school than I realized and which activities fell into which school subjects. I also maintained a way to check boxes at the top to see where we were at during the year as far as weeks, days and quarters, etc.
  • Also, I made this so it could be used with multiple ages and where I could divide the lesson plans by ages NOT the kids. This allowed me to pick from lower grade lesson plans and higher grade lesson plans.
  • I think this works great with a more relaxed approach and even with unschooling because it gives you a place to jot notes and then check subject boxes that match those notes.

You can find this lesson planning page as part of my Ultimate Unit Study Planner.

High School Planning @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

Click here to download the free High School Planning page.

Four// Oh heck, high school. Yikes!

Then as life would have it, can you believed we finally reached high school planning? Then I had to start high school planning.

The beauty of this form is that you can print it alongside any of the other forms for the other grades your children are in.

So you can pick and choose one of the above AND this one.

Too, I used my free Student Planners at this point too.

This helps you to balance some of the planning when your teen is involved.

Extremely flexible homeschool lesson planning @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

You can find this page as part of my Ultimate Unit Study Planner.

Having experienced many seasons of homeschooling, I am now down to homeschooling one child.

My needs again have changed and this is the next page that I have been using.

Look at how I created it.

  • This is a monthly glance for a more relaxed view on lesson planning.
  • I love it because you can write notes for one child or multiple.
  • It has one line per day for emphasis more on journaling than detailed lesson plans for each homeschool day.
  • It includes a space for the weekend especially when you need this for a state where you are tracking hours or it’s good for a high school child where you want to track credits.
  • It would also work well for unschooling or relaxed school where you don’t need as much room for detailed lessons plans
  • It still has a place for objectives and it has a place to write in the week instead of Lesson 1, Lesson, 2 and etc.

I hope the fine and subtle differences between these pages will help you to choose one or more which will work for you instead of you conforming to a system that isn’t working for you.

Which stage are you at?

Remember too, that you can mix and match pages too. SO worth creating your own UNIQUE planner with my pages here.

How to Rock Freezer Cooking While Homeschooling

How to Rock Freezer Cooking While Homeschooling @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

This year, I have been sharing my 31 days of dinner ideas with linked recipes because I want you to see how you can have it all while homeschooling.

Don’t give up well-planned meals because you are busy homeschooling kids. Did I mention that I have a passion for cooking?

I have not always felt that way because in the beginning, my total focus was on homeschooling. I didn’t really plan on giving up cooking and though I didn’t, it was meager at times.

Besides menu planning for 31 days, I have always believed in freezer cooking.

So I was over the top excited, when a fellow homeschool mom put together a freezer cooking course that doesn’t take too long to go through.

What makes it so different than other things out there is that the homeschool mom lives my life. Okay, well you know not my life literally but because she homeschools, her priorities are my priorities.

I always value taking courses from persons who are living my homeschool lifestyle because I am always up for learning anything new or a trick or two that I didn’t know.

There is always room for learning more especially when I know the tips would be ones that I can realistically use while homeschooling.

The eCourse didn’t disappoint and I was excited to get started right away.

What I love about the course is that.

  • I like having tips for when I freezer plan a smaller number of meals like I did, or when I need meals for a longer period of time.
  • You know me, I love step by step directions like I give for my planner, so I love the fact that it’s explained step by step.
  • Too, I loved watching the videos for practical how-tos.
  • I love having everything that I need to get started; recipes, tips and even labels all ready to print.
  • The teaching tips are easily adaptable for a large family, a family with multiple wannabe cooks (like mine with my teens) or a family with fewer kids.
  • I could show you all my pretty new kitchen utensils I got since we moved back to the states. (okay, okay)
  • It didn’t take a whole lot of time to go through and the best part is that
  • I learned so many quick and fast tips for freezer cooking.

Freezer Cooking

I would have loved to have made more meals, but my freezer is so teeny tiny that I only cook and plan for one week.

I needed two more meals to complete my meals for the week, so I got them together quickly following the Freezer Meal 101 eCourse.

I just took from the program the help I needed this week.

Freezer Cooking 1

Too, since we moved back to the states I have been stocking my kitchen back up after I got rid of so many kitchen things. I really needed a do over and I’m glad moving game me permission to do so.

These measuring spoon which are round for liquids on one end and rectangular on the other hand for sticking into spice containers is fabulous for not only cooking but to use when freezing several meals at one time.

I used mine to make the Jamaican Jerk Chicken recipe in the eCourse. I made my own Jamaican Jerk spice following the recipe in the course and can’t wait to try it on my chicken.

Freezer Cooking 2

I followed the tips in the eCourse to make freezer cooking easy because I know in the past I have complicated it by not being prepared with everything I need.
I also have been loving using my new eco-friendly measuring cups. I love the colors.

Freezer Cooking 4

Like I mentioned before, I love the fact that all the labels are premade in the eCourse.

All I have to do is print off. Since I didn’t have the correct label size, I just used what I had and wrote the directions on it for the Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Chicken Hurry recipes in the course. I will be getting the labels soon so that I can just print them and stick on the meals.

Hands down the best part of freezer cooking is that you can quickly make a month’s worth meals and not cook, which I love.

Too, I will be getting a new freezer soon and can’t wait to fill it with more meals from the Freezer Meals 101 course.

What do you like best about freezer cooking? If you need tips on how to be organized with your meals, be sure to scoot over and sign up for the Freezer Meals 101 course.

Hugs and love ya,

2017 Year Around Planning Schedule Waves @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

Homeschool Planning Forms that Rock and are Beautiful

I never want you to get confused with the different types of forms that I offer each year.

First, remember to visit my Curriculum Planner Category here on my blog to see all the latest printables. Sometimes I don’t always have them up on each  STEP (or page) they normally go on because it takes me some time to get them up.

Also, remember that I offer this homeschool planning form 2 ways. One way is following the academic year from July to June and the other way is the physical year from January to December.

The reason I offer it both ways is that not only do we start our homeschool year at different times, but I have followers in other countries which follow a physical year.

In addition, for many years I followed the physical year to begin and end our homeschool year because it felt more natural.

Curriculum Planner Pages

This is the first option color choice, which I named Waves (I have to name my forms) for the 2017 physical year.

Too, remember it is NOT a calendar for glancing or writing down your appointments. You can grab those here on Step 2. Choose Calendar/Appointment Keepers.

This form is prepared each year for you to highlight which days and weeks you will homeschool and which ones you will not.

In addition, you track the days and weeks and use the key at the bottom to see if you met your goals.

It is a one page glance to help you stay on track when it comes to scheduling. Don’t try to write down appointments here, I give you plenty of room to do on the Appointment Keeper.

31 Days of Dinner Ideas for August With Linked Recipes. Rock Your Cooking and Homeschooling

August 31 days of dinner ideas

Menu planning and homeschool organizing go hand in hand, which is why I have been  doing this 31 days of dinner ideas with you this year.

The area that I struggle with the most is dinner because my days are long this year. The Mr. has switched careers and with this new industry we get up at 4:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. for six days of the week.

Even when my schedule wasn’t as demanding, I learned early that by menu planning for longer period of times relieved the dinner time crunch.

Why 31 Day Menu Planning Rocks When You Homeschool

So my menus each month reflects my style, which is easy but they also reflect my family’s likes and dislikes.

Though  I tried menu planning for 7 days, it was just was never enough. The next week was upon me before I had a chance to menu plan.

By planning for longer periods of times, I have more time during the month to plan and I really like cooking a lot more when I have a plan.

August 31 Days of Dinner Ideas with Linked Recipes @ Tina’s Dynamic Homeschool Plus

Back when I started this series in January, I explained how stress reduces your energy to homeschool. Meal planning is important because it’s part of the solution to minimize the stress in your day.

Grab this month’s menu above and if you need some more ideas, grab some of the other 31 days of dinner ideas.

Unfolding of a Homeschool Unit Study – An Easy Mnemonic { I-SIP}

June 25, 2016 | Leave a Comment
This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see my full disclosure policy.

It’s a paradox. The free rein to study what delights your kids is the same thing that can make some homeschoolers feel restless and unnerved when there is an overflowing amount of material to study on a topic.

Sanity-Saving Secrets for Jumping into Homeschool Unit Studies

As I began creating unit studies, I learned a lot about the learning process and in how to help you to keep the material from being overwhelming. One quick tip to help you remember the unfolding of a homeschool unit study is an easy mnemonic { I-SIP}, which helps you to understand the steps.Unfolding of a Homeschool Unit Study – An Easy Mnemonic { I-SIP}Immersion, separation, investigation and personalization are the layers of learning that you build on as you do unit studies. And the mnemonic is one I created so that you know you don’t have to jump first into tailoring a unit study just for you kids.

Besides, if you went straight to day-to-day lesson plans, you would miss out on the ‘plumpness’ of a unit study.

Breaking down these steps to help you understand each one, I am starting first with explaining what immersion is and why it is the first step.

Don’t try to tame the overabundant information you have on hand.

Immersion is the first step and it is time for unrestrained exploration.

Being immersed or the first step in the I – SIP process is probably my favorite step. It means to “dive head-first” into a subject.

Until you and your kids explore the numerous sub-topics under a major topic, you won’t know what interests your kids.

This is so very important because unit studies are suppose to be about what you think is right to teach your child about a set of subjects.

Sample of how to plan for subtopics in a homeschool unit study @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

(Sample from my Ultimate Unit Study Planner of how many subtopics we were exploring when we studied my FBI unit study.I wrote the main topic in the middle and the subtopics are all connected to my main topic.)

Another important reason to wade through all the material you have on hand is that you don’t want to kill your child’s joy for learning before you get started.

Think of a funnel as you start unit studies. Keep learning ‘open wide’ in the beginning to drink in all the goodness.

Unless you are teaching a unit study for the second or third time, time is needed to see which subtopics you will want to investigate.

For example, I think about my War Between ‘Tates unit study. When we jumped into learning about the topic, there were many subtopics that interested my boys.

From money used back during the American Civil War to the H.L. Hunley submarine that was used by the Confederate States of America, we read about many subtopics while studying about the American Civil War.

As you can see immersion is important because as you read over whichever resources or books you have chosen, a picture emerges of the subtopics that pique your children’s interests.

Though we read about the food prepared during the American Civil War, my sons were more interested in other topics than music, food or fashion. Okay, you know I have all boys. When we first studied the American Civil War, my boys were more interested in the geography and names of the battles and weaponry of the time.

However, had we not read everything we wanted to without restraint, they would have not know about some of the broad strokes of life during that time period.

One huge advantage to taking your time in this first layer of learning is that not only do your children find subtopics that would pique their curiosity, but they also have an introduction to a wide variety of subtopics from the topic you chose.

Don’t rush the immersion step. Sometimes we stay just a few days on this step and for other unit studies, immersion took us a few weeks.

Unfolding of a Homeschool Unit Study. Look at this mnemonic I-SIP which helps you to understand how to easily teach a unit study. @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

Now, can you see why it’s probably my favorite step?

Learning without limits or the boundaries of a textbook is energizing, exhilarating and engaging.

Next, moving onto to the second layer of learning, which is separation is important. I’ll talk about  that next.

Look at these other tips for how to build a unit study

  • 10 Days of Diving into Unit Studies by Creating a Unit Study Together.
  • How to Grade a Homeschool Unit Study for an Older Child (& high school assessment).
