An ancient Assyria lapbook is a fun history project for all ages but your middle school kids will love learning about ancient civilizations. Ancient civilizations can be especially hard to learn about because they can seem abstract.

And the Assyrian Empire was fascinating and militarily advanced. Ancient Assyria was located in the region known as Mesopotamia. Today, this land is mostly part of modern-day Iraq.

The Assyrians had one of the most advanced armies of their time. Kings lived in massive palaces decorated with detailed carvings that showed battles, hunts, and important events.

And they built impressive cities like Nineveh and Ashur.
