Homeschooling is not all about the kids.  Okay, well maybe it is.  Today though it’s all about you and in 5 Days of Clever DIY Hacks for your Homeschool Spaces, Day 5. Things the Teacher Luvs,  I rounded up some things to keep the teacher happy.

Whether it’s eye candy, a cute printable or how to make a diy magazine holder (swoon), I have to be excited about the new school year too.  Besides creating my 7 Step Homeschool Planner, I try to create a teacher space that I want to be at each day too.

Sometimes it’s a small thing like a new pen or a new chair.  One year, I got tired of looking at my lamp shade and knowing that a little coral color loving doesn’t hurt anything, I painted my lampshade.  Adding a little chic to your homeschool spaces will keep you excited about the new school year too.

Look at some of these things I rounded up. So swoonworthy! Just click the image to find out how to DIY each project.

Updated Homeschool Attendance Forms

July 16, 2014 | 10 Comments
This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see my full disclosure policy.

Thank You! I have said it before that the best ideas for updating forms come from you because like me, you want to make them flexible enough for your family too.

Today, I have two updated homeschool attendance forms and I am so excited about them.  I have been wanting to add a bit more flexibility to them but I like to take my time when I update my curriculum planner forms because I want them to work for more than just a few homeschoolers too.

I want to Thank Kathy for this comment because as soon as I had time, I updated the attendance form.

Hi Tina,
I LOVE your sheets and ideas. I’ve been following you for two years now.

I noticed in Leeanna’s comment she starts her tracking in May for Ga. The group I’m with in SC starts in June. I was wondering would it be possible to have an attendance chart in the trimesters with blank months. That way we can put down what works for our needs.
In addition, have some extra room for other letter codes ~ ie : The S = sick, H = Holiday, F = Field Trip area.
We don’t have music day, art day, it blends into our days. I had to white out those things and fill in what we did. V = volunteering, L= Lab, T = Latin, and such.
It may help others in the future.

Thanks SO much for all your hard work and thinking of us!
Kathy

Below I created a new graphic explaining the two options and it will eventually be going on the STEP 5  Unique Forms page.

Of course, my love for color has grown since my original Attendance Forms and those forms were in need of some color luv.  The Attendance Forms were some of my first forms where I started adding a bit of color not knowing if you would like it or not.  I had just started to move away from creating only black and white copies.

I now know you love all the color collages as much as I do.

Here are a few details about the updated forms:

  • I have 2 options.
  • Both forms have a place for 4 children.  It is not that I have a fondness for the number four (tee hee hee) but that number of columns fits nicely on one page.
  • Both forms have an expanded Key Area. I added a few more codes too AND I created a few blank lines for codes that may be unique for your family and that you need to track.  You just write them in each year.
  • To allow room for the extra key code area because I was already at the bottom of the page, both forms had to be bumped up a bit.  It doesn’t affect binding or anything, I just wanted you to know that height wise it will be a bit taller than the rest of the forms in your planner.  I know, a small detail but those things matter when I create forms.
  • The biggest difference between the forms is that one has a blank area to fill in the month you begin school AND to fill in your semesters.   This allows for a lot more flexibility whether you begin tracking in May, June or July.  The other form follows all the rest of the forms on my 7 Step Homeschool Planner, which run from July to June (academic year) and allow for year around homeschooling.  On this form, the semesters are already filled in too.

Look below at the two different forms.

This one above you add in the months when you begin to homeschool and write in the semesters.

This form matches the rest of my forms that begin on July and go through June for year around homeschooling and it has the months and semesters filled in already.

Download Form Already Filled In.

As the mood creativity strikes, I will be updating more of the forms too.

Finishing Strong- Homeschool Link Up Party

Thank you for joining us this week at Finishing Strong–the link-up that focuses on middle & high school students.

We are so glad you are here at Finishing Strong, THE place to get ideas and encouragement for homeschooling your middle & high school kids.

We are continuing our in-depth look at the eight bloggers who host this awesome link-up each and every week. Today Tina of Tina’s Dynamic Homeschool Plus is sharing a bit about herself and her site(s).

Don’t forget to add your middle & high school focused posts after you read all about Tina!

Finishing Strong ~ Homeschooling the Middle & High School Years #19 Education Possible

Hi y’all. I am Tina Robertson and I’m just a wee bit obsessed focused on organization. So I have created the 7 Step Free Homeschool Planner with over 200 beautiful forms in color.

7 Steps to Planning a DIY Homeschool Curriculum Planner @ Tinas Dynamic Homeschool Plus - Copy

I don’t throw one huge .pdf planner at you organized in the way my weird brain thinks, but I gently guide you step by step to pick and choose forms on my blog that work best for you.

Also, I am the co-author of New Bee Homeschooler, a program for new homeschoolers.

New Bee Homeschooler Program @ Tina's Dynamic Homeschool Plus

I have been helping new homeschoolers for many years both in person through workshops and through my web workshops.

I blog over at Tina’s Dynamic Homeschool Plus and New Bee Homeschooler. I know, Tina’s Dynamic Homeschool Plus is such a long blog name, but I couldn’t shorten it any because each word is full of meaning for me and it keeps me stoked about homeschooling. Dynamic is a word that I value because it describes how I feel about my friendships that I have made while homeschooling. Lively, energetic and moving are words I like to keep in mind too when humdrum homeschooling hits my homeschool day.

The word homeschool means so much more now than it did when I started homeschooling my oldest son, Mr. Senior 2013. I am blessed to have recently survived celebrated the graduation of Mr. Senior 2013.

The Anatomy of a Well Laid Out Homeschool High School Geography Curriculum.Too, I am still in the trenches with you homeschooling while sharing tips on my love of unit studies, history and geography for all homeschoolers.

Also, helping new bee homeschoolers is part of who I am and I have a whopping 31 Day Free Boot Camp for New Homeschoolers on my blog to show them some homeschooling love.

Lapbook resources to build your own lapbook

Last, but by no means least is our love of hands-on learning, which includes numerous free lapbooks that I share. One of my fixations is turning any worksheet into a minibook and having a worksheet free homeschool day.

The lapbooks add the plus to our day. And no, I don’t view myself as the crafty loving mom which is why I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone and into creating lapbooks for my sons. Lapbooks are a creative hands-on tool and they are not just for younger learners. A lot of my free lapbooks can be used for middle to high school students.

Scoot by because I would love to connect with you!

Back To Homeschool Student Notebook Covers

July 8, 2014 | 10 Comments
This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see my full disclosure policy.

I have some free back to homeschool student notebook covers today. Also, look at my page The Dynamics of How to Homeschool Easily and Smarter for more fun ideas and tips.

Don’t panic, it’s not quite back to school yet.

However, I was panicked excited when I created my back to homeschool student notebook covers last year.

Last year was the first inkling I had that we might move overseas. And knowing my fixation with having an organized space, which includes student binder covers, I created a set of science notebook covers back then.

Who knows what options I will find overseas for student notebook covers, right?

Back To Homeschool Student Notebook Covers

Then, I created history notebook covers too.

Though I had shared my science notebook covers with a few of you back then when my blog was new, I didn’t share my history covers.

Homeschool Student  Notebook Covers

Too because I like all forms of back up plans for my learning area, I have slowly been creating printables for my school area when I have one again.

Also you know my aversion to matchy matchy sets of things and my need for a variety of color choices in any printable I do.

So I have created covers for two subjects (history and science) but they are in a variety of colors.

Five color choices with six spine inserts too for both subjects.

Mix and match the covers for each of your kids with the spine inserts.

History Binder InsertsScience Binder Inserts

Plus, I already have an idea for a style of cover for the other school subjects, which is completely different than the style I am sharing today.

This is a jump start to having covers for our school subject binders and I thought you might like them too.

Download science set here.

Download history set here.

It just feels good knowing that I am doing something to be somewhat prepared for the new school year even if I won’t have a learning space just yet.

How My 25K Pinterest Followers Avoid Pinterest Pandemonium

July 6, 2014 | Leave a Comment
This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please see my full disclosure policy.

Because Pinterest tops the board of social media hogs, not only do you want your Pinterest account to flourish, but you also want to capture unique followers in your niche on their first visit to your page.  Sharing how my 25k Pinterest followers avoid Pinterest pandemonium, I hope you too can avoid some rookie mistakes made by some bloggers or businesses.

What Are You Pinning?

Growing your blog or business presence in Pinterest land is quite different than pinning strictly for personal reasons.

Obviously the two concepts, pinning strictly for business reasons and personal reasons become intertwined because businesses are made up of real folks.

However, there are a few Pinterest savvy tips that help me to remember to hone in on my unique business audience with each pin regularly.  Too, though I am sharing tips here for either a business or a blog and because I want to keep my explanations easy, I will just refer to blogs since I am a blogger.

Blog Niche = Pins and Pins = Blog Niche.  This is a simple concept.  But everyday on Pinterest, I see mistakes of this very important but basic idea.

There is a huge disconnect between blogger niche and the total number of relevant pins I see when I visit the Pinterest stream.

For example, just today, I was visiting a blog, which touts organization as a niche.  Everything on the blog from presentation, to blogging articles to branding was beautifully laid out and there was no doubt as to her niche.

However, that same concept that did not carry over to the blogger’s Pinterest stream or recently pinned pins.  I could not tell what her unique niche was from viewing her recent pins.

Scrolling, scrolling and scrolling in her Pinterest stream and in between wellness oils, how to blog, and dessert recipes (all of which nobody minds if that is what you expect) I could not find one pin about organization.

Yes, she had a board set up for her niche, but more than that is required.  Like a blogging brand, your Pinterest pins or branding needs to be consistently pinned throughout your stream to attract your unique followers.

Too, just like your blog, followers don’t mind a mix of content for spice.  But very soon, they want to read about what they came to your blog for.  This same consistent branding needs to be followed when you pin.

When a new visitor lands on your Pinterest page, it should not take more than 4 or 5 pins for them to know exactly what you pin about and if they want to follow you or not.  Within those 4 or 5 pins, you should be able to capture your target audience because you have pinned pertinent pins relevant to your blogging niche.

Primo Pinterest Spaces

Not only is it important to be consistent about pinning pertinent pins on a regular basis that capture your target audience, but board arrangement is extremely vital in attracting unique visitors.

The top two rows of boards, which most people can see without having to scroll down is premium advertising space.  Do NOT give away the space to boards that are of a personal nature or to topics that are secondary to your main branding.

My top two rows of boards are carefully selected by me to attract my target audience and I also rotate some boards by season.  Simply put, the top two rows should mirror your blogging niche.

Avoid confusion for potential followers by selecting pins that pertain to your niche.  It should not be a balancing act when determining personal pins versus pertinent pins.  Always have more pertinent pins if you want to continue to grow your blog.

The flair in your personality can by spotlighted by pinning personal pins and it adds spice to your page, but should never overshadow your main branding.

Pertinent pins and the well-arranged top two rows of your Pinterest account will seesaw your blogging niche and visa versa.  Just like a seesaw, your boards and pins will balance and highlight your content even when the pins are not from your blog.

Do you see a few changes today that you can make or that will help you grow your personal Pinterest page into a flourishing business?
