- They create amazing underground homes called burrows.
- They can dig burrows that are 30 feet long and go deep underground.
- Groundhogs have strong claws that help them dig through soil.
- Groundhogs are herbivores, which means they only eat vegetables, grasses, and flowers.
- Too, they are one of the few animals that truly hibernate in winter.
- During hibernation, their heartbeats slow down, and they don’t need to eat much.
- Groundhogs can run as fast as 10 miles per hour.
- Besides they are good swimmers and climbers.
- After waking up in the spring, a female groundhog will have a litter of baby groundhogs called pups.
- They can live up to 6 years but with many predators they live only two or three years.
