Kids history games go beyond fun or a pastime. Here at Tina’s Dynamic Homeschool Plus. I’ve rounded up many educational games to add to your curriculum.
And the truth of it is games have come a long way since we were kids.
Whether it’s a board game which I’ve listed here or electronic games, they have educational value for all ages.
In addition, games have entertainment value when there are long winter days, outdoor activities may be limited, or to bring a change to your homeschool day.
Also, games encourage play learning for younger children.
Games encourage use of words, interactions with others, and critical thinking skills.
However, there are more benefits to games which can help you teach homeschool history.
5 Benefits to History Games
Here are 5 benefits to history games.
One. Kids Can Retain More Facts.
So, no matter what your homeschooling style is, gameschooling can add a fun element which helps kids retain more than just facts.
And they don’t even realize they’re learning the facts of an event or time period.
Two. Learning by Association Introduces Unknown Facts
Next, it doesn’t matter the age of your child when they don’t know anything about a person or history event.
And one of the best ways to introduce any child to a new subject is by association.
While playing a game, your learners read and hears persons, places, or time periods associated with history.
Three. Game Learning Can be Turned to Unit Study.
Another benefit I’ve learned is that any game can be turned into a unit study for multiple ages.
For example, the game of backgammon is probably one of the oldest board games in history.
From playing backgammon to introducing facts about Ancient Mesopotamia. Also, Ancient Egyptian and Romans played it.
Playing backgammon is a fun introduction to ancient civilizations.
Four. Games Can Links Geography to History.
Additionally, when a child is learning history, he can learn geography facts.
Besides reading clues or instructions on the game, history facts are tied to world geography or U.S. geography.
Learning geography naturally cements facts that otherwise your learner may not have been interested in if pushed to memorize them.
Five. Games Nurture Creativity and Imagination.
Moreover, some games you can create or better yet have your child create.
I’ve created many games when I couldn’t find something I needed exactly.
Made up games helps your child with his imagination and creativity.
For instance, they can understand what it feels like to be in the crosshairs of the French Revolution.
Finally, look at some games below which will not only entertain your children, but education them.
