- On July 2, 1937, Amelia and her navigator Fred Noonan disappeared over the Pacific Ocean.
- Their plane vanished near a tiny island called Howland Island in the Pacific.
- Their last radio message said they were low on fuel and couldn’t find the island.
- Even though the U.S. Navy searched over 250,000 square miles, they didn’t find any trace of her plane.
- She was declared legally dead in 1939.
